World Flour Day

Billions of people eat food made from flour every day. The Flour World Museum in Wittenburg launched an initiative for the global celebration of the “white gold of life” once a year on 20th March – from New York to Sydney, from Buenos Aires to Mexico City, Lisbon to Moscow. This date, halfway between the two solstices, was deliberately chosen for “World Flour Day.” In the Northern hemisphere the spring marks the start of the planting season, whereas in the southern hemisphere it is autumn and harvest time. Therefore, the period around 20th March is a special time of hope and gratitude.
Over 3,600 flour sacks from more than 140 countries – a number that takes some “digesting”. The world’s biggest flour sack collection has now found a home in the Sackotheque of the Flour World Museum.
