That’s why we were proud to sponsor Ellie Humphries as she represented Great Britain at the 2026 Europe Triathlon Multisport Championships in Banyoles, Spain.

Representing Great Britain on the European Stage

Held from 11–19 July 2026, the Europe Triathlon Multisport Championships brought together Europe’s top elite, junior, para and age-group athletes to compete across a range of endurance disciplines. Organised by Europe Triathlon, the event is one of the most prestigious age-group competitions on the European triathlon calendar.

The Challenge

The Standard Distance Duathlon is one of the flagship events of championship week and offers a demanding test of endurance and resilience. Following the World Triathlon standard format, athletes completed:

🏃 10 km run
🚴 40 km cycle
🏃 5 km run

Unlike the Sprint Duathlon held the previous day, the Standard Distance race is almost twice the duration and is contested under draft-illegal rules. This means athletes must complete the cycling leg without riding in another competitor’s slipstream, placing even greater emphasis on individual strength, pacing and sustained power.

On Sunday 12 July, Ellie lined up alongside Europe’s best age-group athletes. A significant milestone in any endurance athlete’s career. The event was exclusively for athletes who had qualified through their national federation, with competitors racing within five-year age categories. Simply earning the right to wear the Great Britain Age Group kit was a tremendous achievement, reflecting months of disciplined training, commitment and outstanding performances.

Racing in Beautiful Banyoles

With the transition area, finish line, athlete village and spectator zones all located within easy walking distance, Banyoles created an exciting championship atmosphere. The cycling course took competitors through the stunning Girona countryside, providing both a challenging and memorable race experience.

Centred around the beautiful Lake Banyoles (Estany de Banyoles), one of Spain’s premier triathlon destinations, the championships offered an unforgettable setting for Europe’s finest age-group athletes.

An Outstanding Performance

Ellie’s first appearance representing Great Britain proved to be an incredible success.
Despite temperatures reaching 34°C and competitors waiting until 10am to start, Ellie produced an outstanding performance to finish:

5^th in her Age Group
2^nd British athlete in her Age Group

For a first GB appearance, these results are exceptional and demonstrate the dedication and determination that earned her place on the team.

Ellie’s Championship Experience

Following the race, Ellie shared her thoughts with the Simmatic team:

“Wow what an experience! It was so intense and I was so nervous before the buzzer went off. There was a group of other girls who were also doing their first Age Group Team GB race too, so that helped ease the nerves a little.”

“The heat was horrendous at 34 degrees and we didn’t set off until 10am, so we had a morning slowly melting before we even started!”

“I met so many awesome people and made loads of new friends – everyone was so chatty and friendly.”

“Overall I came 5^th in my age group and 2^nd in Britain for my age group. I probably could’ve pushed it a little more on the run if it wasn’t for the heat, but my heart rate was maxing out! It was like running in a furnace. The bike was a lot of fun, with beautiful scenery all over and a very fast course!”

As well as achieving a fantastic result, Ellie experienced everything that makes representing Great Britain so special – competing alongside Europe’s best athletes, forming new friendships and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
